Amplus Picks Spanish Shipyard to Prepare Petrojarl I FPSO for Redeployment

Amplus Energy Services Chooses Astican Shipyard for Petrojarl I FPSO Repositioning

Amplus Energy Services has made a strategic decision to entrust Astican Shipyard in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with a significant multi-million-dollar project. This project involves preparing the recently acquired Petrojarl I floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit for its next deployment.

The Petrojarl I, previously operating off the coast of Brazil, will undergo a crucial reactivation and readiness program at the Spanish shipyard. Situated strategically off the northwest coast of Africa, Astican Shipyard is well-equipped to handle the complex requirements of this project.

Renowned for its operational flexibility and proven performance, the Petrojarl I remains a highly sought-after FPSO in the industry, attracting strong interest from various market players.

In addition to this development, Amplus Energy has finalized the acquisition of the Petrojarl I from Altera Infrastructure, a transaction initially announced in February 2025.

Petrojarl I FPSO Overview

The Petrojarl I was last deployed at Petrobras’ Atlanta field, boasting a production capacity of 30,000 barrels of oil per day and a storage capacity of 180,000 barrels. It was eventually replaced by a larger FPSO unit named Atlanta.

Steve Gardyne, Managing Director at Amplus Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “The addition of Petrojarl is a transformative step for Amplus. It elevates us from being solely a provider of field development floating solutions to direct asset ownership, significantly enhancing our strategic capabilities and meeting the growing demand from our clients.”

Gardyne further emphasized the importance of collaborating with Astican Shipyard for the vessel’s repositioning, highlighting the shipyard’s expertise and services essential for a successful and efficient mobilization process.
