AtoB@C Shipping Expands Green Fleet with Seventh Plug-In Hybrid Vessel

AtoB@C Shipping, a subsidiary of Finnish company ESL Shipping, has recently welcomed its seventh 5,400 dwt plug-in hybrid vessel, Biomar, into its fleet. The delivery, which took place in India on June 16, 2025, signifies a major step forward in the company’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.

According to Frida Rowland, AtoB@C Shipping’s Commercial Director, the addition of Biomar is a testament to the company’s dedication to building a greener future for shortsea shipping in Europe.

Following the delivery of Biomar, construction of the final vessel in the twelve-ship series, Luxomar, officially began on June 17 with a steel-cutting ceremony. Meanwhile, the eighth vessel, Ventumar, which was launched on May 30, is currently undergoing outfitting and is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2025.

These vessels are part of AtoB@C Shipping’s order of twelve 5,400 dwt plug-in hybrid ships from Indian shipbuilder Chowgule & Company. With one vessel scheduled for delivery every quarter until the autumn of 2026, the company is making significant strides towards a more sustainable future.

Equipped with battery packs and shore power connection, the twelve-ship ice class 1A series enables emission-free and noise-free port visits, further reducing the environmental impact of the shipping industry. The sixth vessel in the series, Terramar, was delivered in mid-March 2025 in Goa, India.
