UK Shipowner Bibby Marine Finds New Shipbuilder in Spain for eCSOV Project

UK shipowner Bibby Marine has announced a new partnership with shipyard Armon in Spain for its electric commissioning service operation vessel (eCSOV) project.

The decision to switch shipbuilders from Gondan Shipbuilders to Armon was made due to project timelines that could not be met. The original plan was to have the vessel built at Gondan’s Asturias shipyard for delivery in 2026. With the new partnership with Armon, the delivery of the eCSOV is now scheduled for 2027.

The eCSOV is hailed as the world’s first truly zero-emission vessel of its kind. It will be equipped with the ability to operate solely on battery power for a full day of operations and will feature dual-fuel methanol engines.

Nigel Quinn, the chief executive at Bibby Marine, expressed excitement about the new partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to be working alongside our new partners, Armon, and move to the next stage of our project. The delivery of this vessel will bring our clean vision to life, confident it will mean significant advancements to our industry.”
