ModuSpec Secures Major Support Assignment for Drillship Intake Process in the Black Sea

MR Group’s ModuSpec, a leading rig intake and inspection specialist, has announced a significant multi-staged support assignment for the intake process of a sixth-generation deepwater drillship in the Black Sea.

The contract, which involves an undisclosed drillship to be utilized by an international oil company for a period of about eight months or 250 days, is projected to contribute approximately £250,000 (around $338,384) to ModuSpec’s revenues.

Mark Watson, Operations Director at ModuSpec, expressed his confidence in the company’s capabilities, stating, “We have a long-standing track record of supporting drillship intake processes, particularly for vessels equipped with the latest generation equipment and systems.”

He further added, “Our client will be operating in the Black Sea, an area where ModuSpec has successfully completed over 45 projects in the past decade. Our team of experienced surveyors will be involved in the acceptance phase, starting in South-East Asia and concluding in the Black Sea.”

As part of the agreement, ModuSpec will conduct thorough assessments of the drilling, mud, electrical, electronic controls, subsea well control, and dynamic positioning systems to ensure they are in optimal condition following recertification in Southeast Asia. The rig acceptance process will also include subsea deployment and testing of the blow-out preventer in the Black Sea.

Recent statements from the company’s CEO, Duco de Haan, and Director of Technology Innovation, Michael Fry, emphasized the growing significance of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in the drilling sector. They highlighted that economic pressures, safety considerations, and environmental regulations are driving the industry towards greater adoption of AI-enabled tools.
