Seas Geosciences Converts BOS Princess into Multipurpose Geotechnical Drilling Vessel

Seas Geosciences has successfully completed the conversion of the BOS Princess into a state-of-the-art multipurpose geotechnical drilling vessel, ready to cater to the needs of the global offshore energy industry.

Measuring 80 meters in length and boasting a beam of nearly 19 meters, the BOS Princess is well-equipped to support Seas’ geotechnical investigations with precision and efficiency.

The vessel has been outfitted with custom tools that can seamlessly transition from water depths of 10 meters to over 4,000 meters, enabling it to perform simultaneous downhole and seabed operations.

Among the key features of the newly converted vessel are Seas Geosciences’ innovative 350KN seabed cone penetration testing unit and deepwater drill, both of which were designed and constructed in-house. The topside rig has also been fully customized to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.

The seabed CPT unit is fully automated for enhanced safety and operational efficiency, equipped with both a lubricated coiled rod and a straight rod. It can be launched through the vessel’s moonpool and features cameras and telemetry for precise landing operations. Additionally, its telescopic legs make it suitable for sloped and uneven seabeds.

The deepwater drill, known as Nautilus1, will be deployed from the stern using Seas Geosciences’ launch and recovery system. This drill is capable of conducting deep-penetration downhole geotechnical boreholes in deep and ultra-deep waters.

Seas Geosciences plans to utilize the revamped BOS Princess for global projects spanning from the Mediterranean Sea to the North Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, and beyond.

President of Seas Geosciences, Paolo Casciotti, expressed his enthusiasm about the vessel’s capabilities, stating, “This investment underscores our commitment to expanding our operations while supporting our shareholders and the marine environment. The BOS Princess is tailored to meet the specific demands of today’s offshore developments.”

Earlier this year, Seas Geosciences and Britoil Offshore Services entered into a multi-year agreement for the vessel, setting the stage for its conversion into a cutting-edge geotechnical drilling platform.

Conclusion

The transformation of the BOS Princess into a multipurpose geotechnical drilling vessel marks a significant milestone for Seas Geosciences and the offshore energy industry. With its advanced capabilities and custom-built tools, the vessel is poised to play a crucial role in supporting offshore projects worldwide.
