Boskalis and Allseas Consortium Awarded Contract for Offshore Gas Pipeline in Taiwan

A consortium of Boskalis and Allseas has secured a significant contract from CPC Corporation Taiwan for the construction of the second offshore gas pipeline from Yongan to Tongxiao. The total contract value for this project is approximately €1.2bn ($1.39), aimed at enhancing the gas supply capacity in northern Taiwan.

The scope of work includes the design, construction, installation, and pre-commissioning of a new 36-inch offshore natural gas pipeline spanning approximately 232 km. This pipeline will run parallel to the existing YT1 pipeline, connecting the Yongan LNG terminal in the Southwest with the Tongxiao transfer station in the northwest.

Key responsibilities under the contract involve trenching, pipeline installation with 34 crossings over existing and future infrastructure, backfilling, and the construction of two landfalls. Boskalis will oversee the landfalls, microtunnelling activities, nearshore and offshore trenching, backfilling, and the installation of rocks for the crossings. The company will utilize two large hopper dredgers, a large backhoe dredger, and a subsea rock installation vessel for these operations.

Allseas, on the other hand, will handle the pipeline installation and pre-commissioning tasks, including the pre-lay installation of concrete mattresses. The company plans to deploy two cutting-edge pipelay vessels for this project, showcasing its expertise in the industry.

Project execution is slated to commence in 2026, with completion expected by 2028. This initiative marks a significant step towards bolstering the gas infrastructure in Taiwan and ensuring a reliable supply of natural gas to meet the region’s growing energy demands.
