Royal Boskalis Unveils Plans for World’s Largest Subsea Rock Installation Vessel

Royal Boskalis B.V. has recently announced its ambitious plans for the Windpiper, a groundbreaking vessel that is set to become the world’s largest subsea rock installation (SRI) vessel. With an impressive cargo capacity of 45,500 metric tons, the Windpiper is expected to revolutionize the industry.

Anticipated to be delivered in the first quarter of 2026, the vessel will reinforce Boskalis’ position as a leader in specialized subsea rock installation. The addition of the Windpiper will effectively double the company’s capacity when combined with its existing fleet of three vessels.

The Windpiper boasts impressive specifications, measuring 227 meters in length and 40 meters in breadth, with a power output exceeding 31,000 kW. Equipped with both a moonpool and an inclined fall pipe system, the vessel is specifically designed to safeguard offshore wind turbine foundations.
