Unexpected Quay Crane Collapse at Port of Tuas, Singapore
STS crane collapses are a rare sight at ports worldwide, typically occurring when a crane is struck by a ship. However, the port of Tuas in Singapore recently witnessed a different scenario – a collapse during delivery.
On a Sunday afternoon around 1320 hours, a newly acquired quay crane toppled over while being transported to a berth at Tuas. Fortunately, the quayside was non-operational at the time, resulting in no injuries or fatalities.
The Maritime and Ports Authority (MPA) of Singapore confirmed that none of the surrounding port facilities or equipment suffered damage. All operational berths at PSA Singapore remain accessible, with no disruption to ongoing port activities or development projects.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident. PSA, along with the MPA and other relevant agencies, are collaborating to address the situation promptly.
Tuas stands as a cutting-edge greenfield port complex with ambitions to become the world’s largest upon completion. Singapore’s long-term plan involves gradually transitioning all container terminal operations to Tuas over the next two decades, allowing for waterfront redevelopment in the city center.
