The Spanish Freire Shipyard Delivers New Maintenance Support Vessel to Briggs Marine
The Spanish Freire Shipyard has recently handed over a state-of-the-art maintenance support vessel, named Forth Constructor, to the UK-based Briggs Marine. This new vessel marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two companies.
Briggs Marine placed an order for the Forth Constructor in December 2022, and after months of meticulous construction, Freire Shipyard launched the vessel and moved it to a “wet berth” at its yard in Vigo in July 2024. The vessel is built to the highest standards and is ready to support Briggs Marine’s various contracts with the UK government, offshore wind farms, and commercial ports.
The Forth Constructor has been designed by Cintranaval in collaboration with Freire Shipyard’s design department. This versatile vessel will primarily be used for inspection, servicing, and replacement of aids to navigation (AtoN) and heavy inshore moorings in the UK and other locations worldwide. Additionally, it is equipped to handle offshore support tasks such as seabed investigation and survey, offshore wind support, and inshore cable laying assistance.
Measuring 40 meters in length, the Forth Constructor features a cutting-edge diesel-electric DP-2 propulsion system, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. The vessel comes equipped with a range of capabilities, including a moonpool, a detachable A-frame, a 4-point mooring system, and a survey project office. It also boasts a demountable crew transfer vessel (CTV) boarding ladder, specifically designed to support offshore wind farm projects.
