UAE’s Subsea Cable Assets (SCA) has initiated the manufacturing of cable carousels set to be delivered to Sumitomo Electric’s cable factory in Scotland.

The Dubai-based EPIC contractor SCA has engaged the services of Dutch company Enersea to design and fabricate six cable carousels and loading towers for the Japanese client.

The carousels are currently under fabrication at the Fabtech yard in Dubai and are scheduled for shipment to Scotland with an anticipated delivery in the second quarter of 2025.

Enersea’s scope encompasses the concept and detailed design of two 800-tonne carousels, two 1,500-tonne carousels, and two 5,000-tonne carousels, along with providing fabrication support throughout the process.

In May, Sumitomo Electric commenced the construction of the UK’s inaugural HVDC cable factory, situated at the Port of Nigg. THREE60 Energy is overseeing the delivery of cable storage carousels and cable handling equipment for the power cable manufacturing facility.

The commissioning of the cable factory is projected to take place in 2026.
