Steelhead LNG Initiates Legal Proceedings Against Pembina Pipeline Corporation and ARC Resources
Steelhead LNG, a Vancouver-based developer in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) arena, is mounting another legal challenge against an LNG project on Canada’s West Coast. Legal proceedings are underway against Pembina Pipeline Corporation and ARC Resources in connection with a floating LNG (FLNG) solution for this development.
Legal Battle Unfolds
After Steelhead LNG accused Cedar LNG and Samsung Heavy Industries of infringing its Korean patents a few months ago, legal proceedings were set in motion in Korea. Now, Steelhead LNG has initiated new legal proceedings against Cedar LNG, Pembina Pipeline Corporation, and ARC Resources in British Columbia.
The lawsuit alleges that each of the defendants “willfully and improperly exploited information” supplied by Steelhead LNG to ARC Resources, benefiting Cedar LNG. The lawsuit seeks to suspend ARC Resources’ participation in the Cedar LNG project and secure damages for the unauthorized use of information.
Strategic Positioning
The FLNG facility for the Cedar LNG project, a partnership between the Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corporation in Kitimat, British Columbia, is being designed and constructed by Samsung Heavy Industries and Black & Veatch. The project aims to provide a lower-carbon energy option for global markets.
With a total estimated cost of around $4 billion, the project and its FLNG unit are strategically positioned to enable LNG exports to key Asian markets. The project leverages existing LNG infrastructure and renewable electricity sources to minimize its environmental impact.
Protecting Intellectual Property
Steelhead LNG emphasizes its commitment to protecting its intellectual property rights and proprietary information. The company holds patents in multiple countries and continues to pursue legal action against entities that allegedly infringe on its patents or misuse its proprietary information.
As the LNG industry evolves, Steelhead LNG remains focused on advancing LNG technology solutions while ensuring value delivery to its stakeholders.
Steelhead LNG’s legal battles underscore the importance of safeguarding intellectual property in the LNG sector, especially as companies strive to innovate and compete in the global market.
