Carnegie Clean Energy Subsidiary Achieves Milestone Payment for CETO Wave Energy Converter
Carnegie Clean Energy’s subsidiary, CETO Wave Energy Ireland (CWEI), has recently received a milestone payment of €203,437 as part of the EuropeWave Phase 3 contract. This achievement signifies the completion of design reports for the company’s CETO wave energy converter (WEC), a crucial step towards its planned deployment at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) in the Basque Country by 2025.
Key Design Elements
The design reports, which have been reviewed and approved by the EuropeWave Buyers Group, outline specifications for essential components of the CETO system. These components include the power take-off (PTO) unit, control system, electrical system, mooring, and foundation.
Carnegie’s engineering team worked closely with contractors and suppliers to finalize these critical elements as part of the ACHIEVE Program, demonstrating their commitment to advancing wave energy technology.
“The accepted design reports provide detailed specifications for key components of the CETO wave energy converter, including the power take-off unit, control system, electrical system, mooring, and foundation,” stated the company.
About CETO Wave Energy Converter
CETO is a fully submerged, point absorber type wave energy technology device. It consists of a submerged buoy that oscillates with the ocean waves, generating orbital motion that drives a PTO system to convert this motion into electricity.
Future Deployment Plans
Carnegie Technologies Spain, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Carnegie, secured a €2.1 million grant from the Basque Energy Agency to support the deployment of the CETO wave energy device at BiMEP. The ACHIEVE Program, led by Carnegie’s subsidiaries, aims to deploy and operate a CETO prototype at BiMEP starting in 2025, with a two-year operational period to gather valuable data for technology validation and commercialization.
In collaboration with Wave Energy Scotland (WES) and Ente Vasco de la Energia (EVE), EuropeWave combines public funding to accelerate the development of wave energy technology through a Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) program, emphasizing value optimization and sector advancement.
Earlier this year, Carnegie Clean Energy received a progress payment of €251,100 under the EuropeWave Phase 3 contract, showcasing continued progress and success in the wave energy sector.
