Shandong Shipping Corporation Expands Fleet with New LNG Dual-Fuel Containership

China’s state-owned shipping player, Shandong Shipping Corporation, is making waves in the maritime industry with its recent addition to the fleet. The company has inked a deal with Jiangsu Jiuzhou shipyard for the construction of a cutting-edge LNG dual-fuel containership with a capacity of 1,360 TEU.

The new vessel is set to join the company’s fleet in 2026, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly shipping operation. While the exact value of the contract remains undisclosed, this move underscores Shandong Shipping’s commitment to investing in modern, environmentally conscious vessels.

Expanding Horizons: Methanol-Ready Bulkers and Kamsarmaxes

Shandong Shipping Corporation is not stopping at just one new vessel. The company has also placed orders for six methanol-ready bulkers at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry. With an order totaling $130 million each, these 325,000 dwt vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2028 and will be chartered to Vale, a prominent Brazilian mining company.

Prior to this latest order, Shandong Shipping made headlines with a significant investment in twelve 82,000 dwt Kamsarmaxes at Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry. These state-of-the-art ships, equipped with carbon capture and storage technology, are slated for delivery in 2024 and 2025.

Valued at approximately $33.5 million each, the Kamsarmaxes represent a strategic move by Shandong Shipping to reduce carbon emissions and enhance the sustainability of its fleet. This forward-thinking approach positions the company as a leader in environmentally responsible shipping practices.

With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Shandong Shipping Corporation is setting a new standard for the maritime industry. By investing in LNG dual-fuel technology, methanol-ready bulkers, and carbon capture-equipped vessels, the company is paving the way for a greener future in shipping.
