Damen Yichang Shipyard Launches Eco-Friendly Cargo Vessels for Fast Lines Belgium

Damen Yichang Shipyard, a Chinese subsidiary of Dutch shipbuilder Damen, recently launched the first two 3,800 dwt eco-friendly cargo vessels for Belgian logistics company Fast Lines Belgium. The vessels mark a significant milestone in the partnership between the two companies.

The first vessel was splashed in China on May 19, 2025, followed by the second vessel on May 30. This event signifies the progress made since the signing of a contract between Damen and Fast Lines Belgium in October 2023, with an additional vessel option exercised by Fast last year.

Measuring 89.7 meters in length and 5.45 meters in width, these vessels represent the latest addition to Fast Lines Belgium’s fleet. The company, headquartered in Belgium with operations in the UK, Republic of Ireland, and Poland, is set to enhance its logistics capabilities with these new eco-friendly ships.

Damen’s CF 3850 design focuses on fuel efficiency and adaptability to client-specific requirements. Fast Lines Belgium has incorporated features such as a harbor generator and a larger shore power connection to optimize the vessels’ operations during port stays, reducing noise and emissions.

Moreover, the company has increased crane capacity and improved storage accessibility to streamline cargo handling processes. The integration of Damen Triton IoT solution, equipped with sensors for data collection, enhances operational efficiency and decision-making onboard.

Catrien Scheers, Chair of Fast Lines Belgium, commended Damen for delivering fuel-efficient and intelligent vessels. The implementation of Triton will enable real-time monitoring of fuel efficiency, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
