Danish Wave Energy Company Exowave Advances PTO System Testing
Exowave, a leading Danish wave energy technology company, is gearing up for a crucial phase in the development of its wave energy technology. The power take-off (PTO) system is scheduled for wet testing in the upcoming weeks, marking a significant milestone in the project.
According to Exowave, the progress of the PTO assembly has exceeded expectations, thanks to the company’s robust design and engineering capabilities, as well as the support from Semco Maritime. The positive development bodes well for the future of wave energy technology.
With funding from EUDP – Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram, the project is steadily moving towards its final acceptance test in May. A successful test would elevate the technology readiness level to 7 (TRL7), a critical milestone in the advancement of wave energy as a reliable renewable energy source.
Gugler Water Turbines, another key player in the project, expressed optimism about the upcoming final acceptance test in May. The test is seen as a pivotal moment in the practical application of wave energy systems.
Collaboration has been at the core of the project’s success, with Exowave acknowledging the engineering contributions of Gugler and Semco Maritime. The results of the impending tests will shape the roadmap towards commercialization of the technology.
Earlier this year, Exowave entered into a partnership with AquaX Energy Americas to establish a joint venture, AquaX JV. The JV aims to deploy wave energy solutions across North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, expanding the reach of sustainable energy solutions in the region.
