Vattenfall Contracts DEME Offshore for Cable Protection System Stabilization Work
Vattenfall, a prominent offshore wind farm owner/operator, has recently awarded DEME Offshore a contract for cable protection system (CPS) stabilization work on the DanTysk and Sandbank offshore wind farms in Germany. This significant project marks a crucial step in ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of these offshore wind facilities.
The tender for CPS stabilization work was initiated by Vattenfall in June last year, with the contract now valued at nearly €3.6 million, as per a contract award notice published on a European tender website on 27 February.
Overview of DanTysk and Sandbank Offshore Wind Farms
Both DanTysk and Sandbank offshore wind farms are strategically located west of the island of Sylt in Germany, boasting a generation capacity of 288 MW each. DanTysk, featuring 80 Siemens Gamesa 3.6 MW turbines, has been operational since 2014. On the other hand, Sandbank, equipped with 72 Siemens Gamesa 4 MW turbines, commenced operations in 2016.
The successful operation of these offshore wind farms is crucial in contributing to Germany’s renewable energy goals and reducing carbon emissions.
Recent Developments at DanTysk and Sandbank
In a bid to enhance operational efficiency and explore innovative technologies, DanTysk and Sandbank recently hosted a testing campaign organized by Ampelmann, Dutch Applied Scientific Research Institute (TNO), and Vattenfall. This initiative involved the trial of AI-powered cargo drones at the offshore wind farms, showcasing the industry’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge solutions for offshore operations.
With the ongoing CPS stabilization work and continuous efforts to drive technological advancements, Vattenfall remains at the forefront of the offshore wind industry, demonstrating its dedication to sustainability and operational excellence.
