DFDS Signs 20-Year Contract with Jersey Government for Ferry Services
DFDS, a leading ferry operator, has entered into a significant agreement with the government of Jersey to provide essential freight and passenger services connecting the Channel Island of Jersey to the United Kingdom and France. This long-term contract, spanning 20 years, solidifies DFDS’s commitment to enhancing transportation links for the residents of Jersey.
New Service Routes and Enhancements
Commencing on March 28, 2025, the revamped ferry service will offer routes from Jersey to key destinations such as Poole and Portsmouth in the UK, as well as Saint-Malo in France. DFDS has pledged to increase ferry frequency during peak periods to meet high demand, introduce high-speed ferries for quicker travel to the UK, and invest in three new vessels by 2032 to ensure a seamless and reliable travel experience.
CEO’s Statement
Torben Carlsen, the CEO of DFDS, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Jersey, stating, “We are excited to embark on this journey with Jersey and the local community. The life-line ferry service is a vital link for the island, and we are fully committed to delivering reliability and an enhanced travel and transport experience for islanders, businesses, and visitors. We look forward to building a strong partnership with Jersey and serving the community.”
Fleet and Service Offerings
DFDS’s fleet dedicated to Jersey will consist of a Ro-Pax vessel, two high-speed crafts, and a specialized freight vessel to cater to the diverse needs of the island. These vessels will not only support tourism and the hospitality sector in Jersey but also enhance connectivity between Jersey, France, and the UK through frequent sailings.
Filip Hermann, VP BU Channel & Baltics at DFDS, emphasized the importance of tourism and hospitality in the local economy, stating, “We will support connectivity with short travel times, meet demand with the right frequency of ferries, and provide ample freight capacity. This will enable islanders to travel off-island and attract more visitors to Jersey, thereby bolstering tourism in the region.”
This 20-year contract signifies a long-term commitment by DFDS to enhance transportation services for Jersey residents and visitors alike. With improved routes, increased ferry frequency, and investments in new vessels, DFDS aims to elevate the travel experience and support the economic growth of Jersey.
