DNO Makes Significant Oil and Gas Discovery in Northern North Sea

Norwegian oil and gas operator DNO has announced a major oil and gas discovery in the Northern North Sea, marking another success in its exploration endeavors.

The discovery was made in Paleocene injectite sandstones in license PL1182 S, with preliminary estimates indicating gross recoverable resources ranging from 39 to 75 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe).

The exploration well, named Kjøttkake, encountered a 41-meter oil column and a 9-meter gas column. A horizontal sidetrack drilled 1,350 meters westwards confirmed the presence of the oil column throughout the discovery.

“We are on a hot streak in Norway,” said DNO’s Executive Chairman Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani. “Our latest and most exciting discovery this year, Kjøttkake, is close to existing infrastructure in the Troll-Gjøa area, and we will be relentless in pursuing its commercialization.”

The well was drilled using Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Yantai rig, a state-of-the-art semi-submersible rig capable of operating in harsh environments. The location of the discovery is strategically positioned, being near existing infrastructure in the Troll-Gjøa area.

Expanding Portfolio and Strategic Acquisitions

This discovery adds to DNO’s growing list of successful finds in the Troll-Gjøa exploration and development hotspot. With ten discoveries since 2021, including Røver Nord, Kveikje, and Heisenberg, the company continues to strengthen its position in the region.

Moreover, DNO recently announced the acquisition of Sval Energi, a move aimed at expanding its presence in the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The transaction is expected to significantly increase DNO’s reserves and resources, positioning the company for future growth and development.

Following discoveries like Norma and Othello, DNO is strategically diversifying its portfolio and investing in producing assets to support its long-term growth objectives in the NCS.

With a strong track record of exploration success and strategic acquisitions, DNO is poised for continued growth and success in the Norwegian oil and gas sector.
