The Launch of Rahaal: UAE’s First Maritime Job Platform by Emirati Female Ship Captain Sahar Rasti

The maritime industry plays a crucial role in the global economy, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a significant step towards promoting opportunities in this sector. The first Emirati Female Ship Captain, Sahar Rasti, has launched Rahaal, the UAE’s first digital platform dedicated to finding jobs in the maritime industry.

Named after the Arabic word for traveller or nomad, Rahaal reflects the dynamic nature of the maritime profession, which involves constant movement and exploration. Captain Rasti emphasized the challenges faced by job seekers in the industry, highlighting the platform’s role in connecting companies and academic institutions to facilitate the recruitment process for cadets and various positions.

One of the key features of Rahaal is its ability to unite hiring entities, making job searching more accessible and efficient for individuals seeking opportunities in the maritime sector. Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs, praised the platform for supporting national talent and localizing job opportunities within the industry.

Malek emphasized that the maritime sector extends beyond ships and ports, encompassing shipbuilding, medical services, repairs, and maintenance, among other areas. She stressed the importance of providing a centralized platform for seafarers to access job opportunities and connect with potential employers.

With Fujairah ranking 3rd globally in the number of ships it serves, the significance of its maritime location cannot be understated. Malek urged the community to engage with the sector and advocated for increased investment and localization efforts to further enhance the industry’s growth.

Furthermore, the platform is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding students and graduates in determining their career paths within the maritime industry. With many individuals facing uncertainty about their future in the sector, Rahaal offers a comprehensive solution to streamline the job search process and facilitate connections between job seekers and employers.

As the UAE continues to strengthen its presence in the maritime industry, initiatives like Rahaal demonstrate the commitment to fostering local talent and facilitating growth opportunities within this vital sector. The launch of the platform marks a significant milestone in promoting job opportunities and enhancing the recruitment process for individuals interested in pursuing a career in maritime.
