ExxonMobil Awards EnerMech Decommissioning Contract for Gulf of Mexico Fields

US supermajor ExxonMobil has recently announced that it has selected EnerMech to handle the flowline decommissioning project for the Hoover-Diana fields in the Gulf of Mexico. This decision came after a competitive tender process, showcasing EnerMech’s expertise and capabilities in the decommissioning sector.

As part of the contract, EnerMech will be responsible for decommissioning subsea flowlines in the area. The scope of work includes flushing, pigging, and filling the lines to remove any remaining hydrocarbons and prepare them for safe decommissioning. The project will involve a variety of service lines, such as coiled tubing, pressure pumping, chemical services, filtration, separation, and pipeline gauging.

The decommissioning operation will encompass flushing of the umbilical, pipeline flushing, and seawater fill operations for the subsea flowline loop. Additionally, nitrogen flushing via a subsea vessel, coiled tubing services, and final seawater filling for the Northern Diana flowline will be conducted as part of the project.

The Hoover and Diana fields are located approximately 260 km south of Galveston, Texas. Diana is primarily situated within East Breaks blocks 945 and 989 in water depths of 1,460 m, while Hoover is positioned in Alaminos Canyon blocks 25 and 26. These fields were discovered in 1990 and commenced production in 2000.

Commenting on the contract award, Charles ‘Chuck’ Davison Jr, EnerMech CEO, stated, “With many offshore assets nearing the end of their lifecycle, the decommissioning market in the Gulf of Mexico is rapidly expanding.” This project underscores the importance of proper decommissioning practices in the industry.
