Enshore Subsea Secures Export Cable Installation Deal for Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm

UK-based Enshore Subsea has recently been awarded a significant contract for the installation of export cables on Scotland’s Inch Cape offshore wind farm. This project marks a major milestone in the renewable energy industry and underlines Enshore Subsea’s expertise in offshore cable installation.

The scope of the project includes the installation of two 85-kilometre, 220kV, 3-phase export cables, which are among the largest in the world in terms of diameter and weight. These cables will be delivered in three sections and will require offshore field joints for completion.

Enshore Subsea will oversee the entire export cable installation process, from transfer from port to site, lay and burial, to supporting jointing and deployment of the cable protection system. The company will also handle all pull-in operations and the installation of the cables into both the transition joint bay at Cockenzie, East Lothian, and the offshore substation off the Angus coastline.

The project is scheduled to commence in the summer of 2025, with Enshore Subsea utilizing the CMOS Installer cable lay vessel for cable laying operations. The burial of the cables will be carried out using Enshore Subsea’s fleet of subsea trenchers.

Once completed, the Inch Cape offshore wind farm will have a capacity of almost 1.1GW and will consist of 72 wind turbine generators, each reaching heights of up to 274 metres. Inch Cape Offshore Limited, a joint venture between ESB and Red Rock Renewables, is the developer behind this ambitious project.
