Equitix-Kyuden Group Consortium Acquires Seagreen Phase 1 Offshore Wind Farm Transmission Assets

The joint venture between SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies, and PTTEP has reached an agreement with a consortium of Equitix and Kyuden Group to sell the offshore transmission assets of the Seagreen Phase 1 offshore wind farm in Scotland.

The transmission assets of Seagreen 1 consist of three export cables, each approximately 64 kilometers long, transmitting electricity from the offshore wind farm to the onshore substation in Angus, located 20 kilometers inland from the landfall.

Under the terms of the sale agreement, the Equitix-Kyuden Group consortium, operating as Seagreen Phase 1 OFTO, will take ownership of the transmission system. This includes the subsea and onshore export cables, as well as the offshore and onshore substations, and will be responsible for operating and maintaining them for 24 years under a transmission license granted by Ofgem, the UK energy market regulator.

Ofgem initiated a tender process in January 2022 for the ownership and operation of the prebuilt electricity links that connect Seagreen 1 to the grid on land.

Seagreen 1: Scotland’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm

Seagreen 1, with a capacity of 1,075 MW, has been in operation since October 2023. It features 114 Vestas V164-10.0 MW wind turbines and is currently the largest offshore wind farm in Scotland.

This offshore wind farm holds the title of being the world’s deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, with its deepest foundation installed at a record 58.7 meters below sea level, as reported by Seagreen Wind Energy Limited.

The completion of this acquisition marks a significant milestone in the renewable energy sector, further solidifying Scotland’s position as a leader in offshore wind energy production.
