Danish Wave Energy Company Exowave Completes Factory Acceptance Test for Wave Energy Converter

Exowave, a Danish wave energy technology company, has reached a significant milestone in its journey towards delivering megawatt-scale wave energy plants in the Danish North Sea by 2030. The company recently completed the factory acceptance test (FAT) of its wave energy converter (WEC) power take-off (PTO) system.

The FAT, which took place at Semco Maritime’s facilities in Esbjerg and was independently witnessed by DNV, showcased the PTO system’s efficiency. Exowave reported that the system achieved up to 78% efficiency across various pressure settings, demonstrating its ability to convert wave-induced mechanical energy into hydraulic power.

Earlier in March, Exowave announced that it was entering a crucial phase in the development of its wave energy technology, with the PTO system scheduled for wet testing in the near future.

“The FAT also demonstrated the performance of the integrated water turbine, converting the generated hydraulic power into electricity — validating the complete wave-to-wire energy conversion chain,” the company shared in a social media post.

The versatile PTO system is designed to be used for both power generation and desalination applications, making it a promising solution for sustainable energy production.

In January, Exowave formed a strategic partnership with AquaX Energy Americas to establish AquaX JV, a joint venture aimed at deploying wave energy solutions across North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
