Ferroport Enhances Nighttime Security and Sustainability with Axis Communications

By: Axis Communications

Ferroport, the iron ore terminal operator at the Port of Açu in São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has recently implemented cutting-edge video surveillance cameras from Axis Communications to improve nighttime security and visibility while prioritizing sustainability. The state-of-the-art cameras allow for high-quality nighttime monitoring without the need for excessive artificial lighting, reducing the ecological impact on the surrounding environment.

The partnership with Axis Communications has enabled Ferroport to comply with Brazilian port standards while aligning with its sustainability goals. The port’s commitment to environmental stewardship is evident through initiatives such as planting 66,000 trees in the area and protecting over 1.3 million loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings since 2008.

Marcelo Oliveira, Property Security Coordinator for Ferroport, emphasized the importance of security and environmental conservation, stating, “With cutting-edge technology from Axis, we can now monitor our port efficiently without compromising on our commitment to sustainability.”

With the installation of Axis cameras, Ferroport has significantly enhanced its surveillance capabilities, allowing for:

  • Effective monitoring of offshore, operational, and perimeter areas
  • High-quality image capture in complete darkness, reducing the need for artificial lighting
  • Conservation of local wildlife by minimizing disruption to their habitats
  • Utilization of deep learning analytics for remote perimeter detection

Winicius Corali, Regional Sales Manager for Brazil at Axis Communications, commended Ferroport for its commitment to security and sustainability, stating, “Ferroport sets a positive example for other port security projects by prioritizing environmental responsibility alongside operational efficiency.”
