Italian Shipyard Fincantieri Partners with Hera Group to Launch CircularYard

Italian shipyard group Fincantieri has joined forces with compatriot utility firm Hera Group to establish CircularYard, a collaborative venture dedicated to implementing an integrated waste management system across Fincantieri’s eight Italian shipyards, with a strong emphasis on the principles of the circular economy. The ultimate goal is to expand its operations to encompass other Fincantieri facilities worldwide.

The primary focus of the joint venture is to manage the entire waste disposal process efficiently, with a key objective of maximizing the recovery of valuable materials such as iron, wood, plastic, and paper. The initiative aims to increase recyclable fractions by 15% within the first year of operation. The project will be executed in two phases, initially handling close to 100,000 tons of industrial waste annually, followed by scaling up to full operational capacity by implementing advanced infrastructure, including water treatment facilities, copper recovery units, and enhanced waste sorting mechanisms.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “The establishment of this joint venture with a reputable partner like Hera Group signifies our continued dedication to adopting sustainable circular economy practices within our shipyards.”
