Viking Vesta Delivered: A New Era in Cruise Ship Technology

Viking Vesta, the second of a new series of cruise ships that Fincantieri is building for the shipowner Viking, was delivered today at the Ancona shipyard.

The ceremony marking the delivery of Viking Vesta was graced by the presence of key industry figures, including Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, and Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of the Merchant Ships Business Unit of Fincantieri.

As a small cruise ship with a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons, Viking Vesta boasts 499 cabins and can accommodate up to 998 passengers. This vessel marks the 14th collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking, showcasing their strong partnership dating back to 2012.

Looking ahead, the collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking is set to reach new heights with a total portfolio of 28 units, including the groundbreaking project of the world’s first cruise ship powered by hydrogen stored on board. The upcoming vessel, Viking Libra, scheduled for delivery at the end of 2026, will operate with zero emissions, setting a new standard for environmentally friendly cruising. Its sister ship, Viking Astrea, slated for delivery in 2027, will also feature the innovative hydrogen technology.
