Allseas’ Pipelay Vessel Lorelay Completes Innovative Platform-to-Platform Pipeline Installation in the Caribbean
Allseas’ pipelay vessel Lorelay has successfully completed a groundbreaking platform-to-platform pipeline installation in the Caribbean. This project marks the first time the bowstring start-up method has been utilized, connecting the pipeline start-up head directly to the platform jacket leg.
The operations commenced in December 2024, with Lorelay deploying 139 mattresses to cross and protect existing subsea pipelines. The entire platform-to-platform pipeline installation off Trinidad’s southeastern coast was completed within a span of ten days.
This project, which was awarded in mid-2024, involved the engineering and installation of a 22-kilometer, 16-inch multiphase line to fulfill the first gas commitments for an offshore development set for 2025.
Operating at depths of 60–70 meters, the concrete-coated pipeline establishes a crucial link between a newly installed platform and existing infrastructure.
Upon the successful conclusion of this project, the Lorelay is scheduled to return to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for a lifetime extension and preparations for upcoming projects, including the Porthos CO2 storage initiative in the Netherlands.
Allseas has recently partnered with MacArtney to enhance its remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations. The company has opted to replace three existing hydraulic launch and recovery systems with the all-electric eLARS on board pipelayers Lorelay and Solitaire, as well as the offshore construction vessel Pioneering Spirit.
