GT&T to Design LNG Carrier Tank for Purus Newbuild

French technological containment specialist Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has been selected by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) to design the tank for a liquefied natural gas carrier (LNGC) newbuild being constructed for Purus, a provider of maritime services for gas transport and offshore wind industries.

The LNGC will be built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), a subsidiary of HD KSOE, with an expected delivery date in the fourth quarter of 2027.

GTT’s scope of work includes designing the vessel’s cryogenic tanks with a total capacity of 180,000 cubic meters. The tanks will feature GTT’s proprietary Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

Upon the announcement of the Purus-Hyundai Samho vessel order, it was revealed that the new LNGC will incorporate advanced dual-fuel propulsion and be optimized to utilize natural gas boil-off as fuel, resulting in a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Additionally, GTT recently entered into collaborations with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) on two joint development projects (JDPs) aimed at enhancing membrane-tank integration to improve onboard ergonomics and operational performance of LNG carriers.
