Gibdock Completes Repair and Renewal of TechnipFMC’s Deep Blue Vessel

Gibraltar-based ship repair and conversion yard Gibdock has successfully completed the repair and renewal of TechnipFMC’s Deep Blue, a state-of-the-art deepwater pipelay and subsea construction vessel. This project marks another milestone for Gibdock in the offshore vessel maintenance sector.

TechnipFMC made the decision to relocate Deep Blue from the U.S. Gulf for the necessary works, demonstrating their trust in Gibdock’s capabilities. Following the completion of the repairs, the vessel was redeployed outside Europe to continue its operations in ultra-deepwater field developments.

Key Features of Deep Blue

Deep Blue is equipped with advanced reel-lay, J-lay, and flexi-lay technologies, making it a versatile asset for subsea construction projects. With twin 2,800 MT capacity reels, the vessel is capable of laying pipes and cables at depths of up to 3,000 meters (9,842 feet), catering to the demanding requirements of deepwater operations.

Scope of Work Undertaken by Gibdock

During the scheduled drydocking at Gibdock, a comprehensive range of maintenance activities was carried out on Deep Blue. This included steel and piping renewal works, hull and tank surface blasting and recoating, and machinery overhauls to ensure the vessel’s continued optimal performance for the next five years.

One of the critical tasks involved raising Deep Blue by 3.7 meters to facilitate the removal and overhaul of the ship’s eight thrusters. This intricate operation required precision and expertise, which Gibdock’s team successfully delivered.

Commitment to Excellence

John Taylor, Managing Director of Gibdock, expressed pride in the successful completion of the Deep Blue project. He emphasized the company’s dedication to providing high-quality maintenance and repair services for complex offshore vessels while upholding the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.

With a track record of delivering top-notch services to the maritime industry, Gibdock continues to be a trusted partner for shipowners and operators seeking reliable solutions for their vessel maintenance needs.

Overall, the successful repair and renewal of TechnipFMC’s Deep Blue at Gibdock showcase the yard’s technical expertise, commitment to quality, and ability to handle complex projects in the offshore sector.
