Glamox Launches New Wildlife and Turtle-Friendly LED Marine Lights
Lighting solutions specialist Glamox has introduced new wildlife and turtle-friendly versions of some of its popular LED marine luminaires. These new amber-coloured lights are specifically designed to minimize the impact of lighting on nesting turtles and their hatchlings.
The demand for turtle-friendly lighting has been on the rise due to increased environmental awareness and regulations from authorities. Particularly in regions like Asia and Australasia, there is a growing market for lighting solutions that are less disruptive to wildlife. Glamox has already seen success with the sale of these new lights for vessels operating in coastal waters off Australia.
Marlon Iversen, Product Manager for Exterior Lighting at the Marine, Offshore & Wind Division of Glamox, explained the rationale behind these new products: “We understand the importance of preserving night skies and protecting wildlife. Long-wavelength light, such as amber-coloured light, is known to be less disruptive to wildlife and turtles compared to blue-white light. This is crucial as moonlight plays a significant role in guiding turtle hatchlings towards the ocean.”
The new LED marine lights from Glamox come in amber light versions with a wavelength of around 600 nanometres, which is considered ideal for turtles. These lights are suitable for use on the exterior of vessels and coastal facilities, including popular models like the MIR G2 and MAX G2 explosion-proof luminaires. Additionally, Glamox offers LED Kits that enable customers to upgrade their existing luminaires to be wildlife and turtle-friendly.
