Hanwha Ocean Enters Deepwater Drilling Sector with Next-Generation Drillship

South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean has made a significant move into the deepwater drilling operations sector with the recent naming ceremony of its state-of-the-art drillship, ‘Tidal Action’.

The ‘Tidal Action’ is equipped with cutting-edge capabilities, allowing for drilling operations at depths of up to 12,000 meters in waters reaching 3,600 meters deep. The vessel boasts a dynamic positioning system and advanced blowout preventers to ensure enhanced operational safety.

Renata Baruzzi, Director of Engineering, Technology & Innovation at Petrobras, had the honor of serving as the vessel’s godmother during the naming ceremony.

This ceremony signifies a significant milestone for Hanwha Drilling, following its launch as an independent fleet operator in 2023. Through a long-term charter agreement, Petrobras will operate the ‘Tidal Action’ in partnership with Constellation Oil Services.

Philippe Levy, President of the Offshore Business Unit at Hanwha Ocean, expressed pride in delivering one of the world’s most advanced drillships and entering the offshore drilling market.

The company’s goal is to leverage its eco-friendly and high-efficiency drillship technologies to establish a strong presence in deepwater projects.
