The Launch of Hanwha Ocean’s Ultra-Deepwater Drillship Tidal Action

Hanwha Ocean recently celebrated the naming ceremony of its cutting-edge ultra-deepwater drillship, Tidal Action, marking its official entry into the deepwater drilling industry. This milestone event signifies the company’s commitment to advancing its presence in offshore drilling.

Advanced Technology

The Tidal Action is a high-specification drillship constructed based on Hanwha Ocean’s proprietary design. It boasts the capability to drill at depths of up to 12 kilometers in waters as deep as 3.6 kilometers. Equipped with a dynamic positioning system for stable station keeping and 20,000 psi blowout preventers for enhanced safety and operational efficiency, the drillship is at the forefront of technology in the industry.

Strategic Decisions

In a strategic move, Hanwha Ocean established Hanwha Drilling in February 2024 to operate its drillship fleet independently. The delivery of the Tidal Action marks a significant step forward in the company’s venture into the offshore drilling sector, setting the stage for future growth and expansion.

Future Plans

Renowned for its eco-friendly and high-efficiency drillship construction technology, Hanwha Ocean aims to build a solid reputation in the sector while expanding its drillship value chain to offer comprehensive offshore energy solutions. The company is focused on becoming a full turnkey solution provider in the maritime sector, following the EPCIO model.

Partnerships and Contracts

In a recent development, Brazilian offshore drilling contractor Constellation secured a long-term charter contract with Petrobras to manage the Tidal Action drillship. Drilling operations in Brazilian waters are scheduled to commence in the second half of this year, highlighting the global reach and impact of Hanwha Ocean’s operations.
