Hyundai and H-Line Shipping Collaborate on AI-Powered Autonomous Ship Technologies
HD Hyundai and H-Line Shipping have joined forces to develop AI-powered autonomous and eco-friendly ship technologies aimed at enhancing vessel efficiency and reducing fuel consumption while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) involves HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and Avikus, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai specializing in autonomous maritime technologies.
According to the agreement, the consortium will work together to integrate various digital systems that support efficient vessel operations across the ship’s lifecycle, from design and construction to maintenance and performance optimization.
This collaboration will involve the integration of Avikus’s autonomous navigation platform HiNAS, the OceanWise routing system from HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and HD KSOE’s cargo handling platform AI-CHS.
As part of the partnership, H-Line will provide an LNG carrier for sea trials to test the new technologies developed through this initiative.
Ho-Dong Seo, COO of H-Line Shipping, emphasized the significance of leveraging AI technology to determine the most optimal routes for shipping cargo, stating that it plays a crucial role in a shipping company’s competitiveness. He expressed confidence that this collaboration would enhance fleet operations’ efficiency and safety.
