Wärtsilä Gas Solutions to Provide Cargo Handling Systems for Three Gas Carriers

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, a division of the Finnish technology powerhouse Wärtsilä, has been selected to supply its advanced cargo handling systems for three 45,000 cbm gas carriers currently under construction at South Korea’s HD Hyundai Mipo shipyard.

Two of the vessels have been commissioned by Purus, a leading provider of maritime services based in Singapore and Hong Kong, specializing in gas transport and offshore wind industries. The third vessel will join the fleet of Pasco Gas, a shipping company based in Istanbul.

The cargo handling systems are scheduled to be delivered to the yard for installation later this year, with Purus expecting delivery of their dual-fuel and ammonia-ready carriers in 2027. These additions will expand Purus’ ammonia transport fleet, which currently consists of three 40,000 cbm vessels, with four more vessels set to join in 2025 and 2026.

“HMD is a key customer in the medium-sized gas carrier market. We have equipped over 15 medium-sized gas carriers built by HMD over the past decade. We are thrilled to continue with this latest project and several others in progress,” stated Patrick Ha, Sales Manager at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions.

On the other hand, Pasco Gas secured its 45,000 cbm vessel order at HD Hyundai Mipo in late 2023, with Wärtsilä’s cargo handling systems being a key feature of the vessel’s design. The systems are known for their safety, reliability, and environmental friendliness, catering to various vessel types, from very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) to smaller gas carriers.

In addition to these projects, Wärtsilä Gas Solutions recently won a contract to supply cargo handling and fuel gas supply technology for a new 12,500 cbm LNG bunkering vessel being constructed by China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering shipyard for global energy player Vitol. The vessel is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2026.
