ScottishPower Renewables Awards Contract for East Anglia Two Offshore Substation to HSM Offshore Energy
ScottishPower Renewables, a subsidiary of Spain’s Iberdrola, has recently announced the awarding of a significant contract for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of the East Anglia Two offshore substation and jacket foundation. The contract has been granted to HSM Offshore Energy, a renowned player in the offshore energy sector.
HSM Offshore Energy will be responsible for delivering the offshore high-voltage substation weighing 5,100 tonnes along with its 3,700-tonne jacket foundation for the East Anglia Two wind farm, located off the coast of Suffolk.
The project’s initial engineering work commenced in the summer of 2024 under an early work agreement. Construction is scheduled to kick off in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the jacket set for installation in the third quarter of 2027 followed by the topside in late 2027.
East Anglia Two offshore wind farm is positioned in the southern North Sea, approximately 33 km from the Suffolk coast at its nearest point off Southwold and 37 km to Lowestoft. The project is expected to have an operational capacity of up to 960MW, capable of powering around 950,000 homes. The total investment for the project amounts to approximately £4bn ($5.1bn).
Moreover, East Anglia Two serves as an extension of the East Anglia One project, wherein Octopus Energy recently acquired a 10% stake, further solidifying their presence in the renewable energy sector.
On a related note, French civil engineering construction company Eiffage has inked an agreement to acquire 100% of HSM Offshore Energy through its subsidiary Smulders, signaling a strategic move in the offshore energy market.
