Spanish electric utility company Iberdrola appoints new CEO

Spanish electric utility company Iberdrola has announced the appointment of Pedro Azagra as the group’s new chief executive officer. Azagra, who brings 25 years of experience with the company, will be taking over from outgoing CEO Armando Martínez.

Pedro Azagra has a long history with Iberdrola, starting as an executive director of development overseeing international expansion. For the past three years, he has served as the CEO of Iberdrola’s USA subsidiary, Avangrid. Additionally, Azagra has held roles as president of Avangrid Power and Avangrid Networks, and currently sits on the board of directors and audit committee of Neoenergia, Iberdrola’s Brazilian arm.

The position of CEO at Avangrid will be filled by José Antonio Miranda, the current CEO of Avangrid Power. Miranda brings a wealth of experience, having previously led Gamesa in China and the USA. He also serves on the board of American Clean Power and is a member of the International Renewable Energy Agency.

These leadership changes reflect Iberdrola’s commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy solutions.

We look forward to seeing the strategic direction that Azagra and Miranda will bring to their respective roles within the Iberdrola group.
