Indian Navy Vessel INS Tabar Responds to Distress Call in Gulf of Oman

The Indian Navy stealth frigate INS Tabar has sprung into action in response to a distress call from the Pulau-flagged tanker MT Yi Cheng 6 in the Gulf of Oman. The tanker, carrying 14 crew members of Indian origin, encountered a major engine room fire and total power failure while en route from Kandla, India to Shinas, Oman.

Upon receiving the distress call, the INS Tabar swiftly dispatched firefighting teams and equipment to the stricken vessel using both ship’s boat and helicopter. Currently, 13 Indian naval personnel and 05 crew members of the tanker are engaged in firefighting operations, with the intensity of the fire significantly reduced.

This rapid response underscores the critical role of naval assets in ensuring the safety of commercial maritime operations, especially in strategic waterways like the Gulf of Oman where vessels are susceptible to various threats and emergencies.

As the operation continues, efforts are focused on fully extinguishing the fire and assessing the extent of damage to the tanker. The Indian Navy has not yet disclosed the potential causes of the fire or the overall condition of the vessel.
