Japan Marine United Corporation Delivers Bulk Carrier Sakura Queen to Green Spanker Shipping

Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU), a prominent shipbuilding company in Japan, has recently handed over the bulk carrier Sakura Queen to Green Spanker Shipping, a maritime transport company based in Japan.

The delivery ceremony took place on February 20, 2025, at JMU’s Ariake shipyard in Kumamoto prefecture. Sakura Queen, a 181,000 dwt vessel, boasts impressive dimensions with a length of 292 meters, a breadth of 50 meters, a depth of 24.5 meters, and a draft of 18.2 meters. The ship has a gross tonnage of 93,691 GT.

Sakura Queen is part of JMU’s N-181,000 dwt type bulk carrier series, known for incorporating energy-saving technology that complies with Phase 3 of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). The vessel is equipped with a ballast water treatment system to prevent the spread of invasive marine species and adheres to the nitrogen oxide (NOx) Tier III emission regulations.

JMU’s representatives highlighted the vessel’s design features aimed at reducing resistance and improving efficiency. With the inclusion of energy-saving devices like the Super Stream Duct, Surf-Bulb, and ALV-Fin, Sakura Queen is expected to achieve significant fuel savings.

Earlier in the month, JMU also delivered two other vessels to their respective owners. On February 6, 2025, the company handed over the bulk carrier Mount Anjin to Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS). Subsequently, a liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered dual-fuel dry bulk carrier, SG Twilight, was delivered to Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) on February 13, 2025.

SG Twilight joins NYK Line’s Sail GREEN brand, known for its focus on environmental sustainability. The vessel’s delivery follows the introduction of its sister ship, SG Ocean, the first Capesize LNG-fueled bulk carrier built in Japan, to NYK’s fleet in 2024.
