Wison New Energies Holds Keel Laying Ceremony for FLNG Unit Bound for Indonesia

China-based provider of clean energy services Wison New Energies (WNE) recently celebrated a significant milestone with the keel laying ceremony for a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit destined for Indonesia.

The ceremony, held at WNE’s Nantong Yard, signifies the commencement of the core construction phase of Indonesia’s first FLNG facility. The unit will be deployed at the Genting FLNG project in West Papua, Indonesia, where it will liquefy natural gas from the Kasuri block’s concession area.

The FLNG facility, boasting a length of approximately 278.8 meters and a width of 60 meters, features WNE’s standardized design. With a production capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum (mtpa), the unit is expected to support Indonesia’s green transformation agenda.

The keel-laying event was graced by Genting’s Chairman and Chief Executive Lim Kok Thay, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director Kong Han, WNE’s Chairman Liu Hongjun and CEO Cheng Yuanyun, and Operations Director of Bureau Veritas M&O China, Yi Gaojie, among other dignitaries.

During the ceremony, the two Chairmen jointly placed the steel plate on the keel, symbolizing the commencement of the FLNG project and offering their best wishes for its success.

In June 2024, WNE, along with Genting Oil & Gas and PT Layar Nusantara Gas, signed an engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) contract for the Genting FLNG project.

Currently, 90% of the ship models are undergoing evaluation, while the final stages of hull detailing and topside process system design are nearing completion.

Furthermore, in December 2024, WNE inked a front-end engineering and design (FEED) agreement with Ace Gas and FLNG for a proposed project involving an FLNG unit and a power barge off the coast of Nigeria.

In another achievement, WNE’s standardized floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit received approval in principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas (BV), highlighting the company’s commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions.
