KIMM Signs MoU with NRC for Collaboration in Sustainable Resource Technologies

The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM), under the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST), recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Natural Resources Canada (NRC) to foster international collaboration in sustainable resource technologies. This partnership aims to support the global transition to carbon neutrality and enhance KIMM’s global R&D network.

Areas of Collaboration

The MoU outlines collaboration in various key areas, including:

  • Joint research on ammonia recovery and removal technologies
  • Information exchange on battery material recovery and industrial waste treatment
  • Organization of joint workshops and expert exchange programs

This collaboration is expected to yield tangible technological outcomes that contribute to environmental sustainability and resource recovery.

Exploring Future Initiatives

Prior to the signing of the MoU, KIMM engaged in discussions with NRC on potential collaborations in intelligent manufacturing automation, composite-based aircraft production, and maintenance technologies. The institutions also explored opportunities for joint workshops and researcher exchanges to establish practical collaboration frameworks.

KIMM also visited the Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms to discuss joint research in advanced manufacturing AI and AI-robotics convergence, aiming to leverage MILA’s expertise in AI research for Korean manufacturing environments.

Participation in CKC 2025

From July 28 to August 1, 2025, KIMM participated in CKC 2025, a Canada-Korea Conference on Science and Technology held in Montreal. During the conference, KIMM co-organized an international collaboration session, presented research achievements, and expanded its North American R&D network.

The participation in CKC 2025 highlighted Korea’s leadership in hydrogen technology and emphasized strategies for joint R&D outcomes and bilateral innovation synergy between Korea and Canada.
