Klein Marine Systems Signs Agreement With SAAB to Provide Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) Technology

Klein Marine Systems to Provide SAS Technology to Saab Kockums AB

Klein Marine Systems, a renowned leader in sonar technology, has recently secured a contract to supply Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) hardware technology to Saab Kockums AB based in Linköping, Sweden.

The SAS hardware will be integrated into the Saab AUV62-MR, an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) specifically designed for mine-countermeasures (MCM) missions. Saab has officially entered into a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the procurement of these advanced AUVs. The AUV62-MR possesses the capability to rapidly map and generate high-resolution sonar images of the seabed across large areas, enabling the detection of various types of objects. This cutting-edge system equips the navy with the ability to conduct covert reconnaissance operations and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, all while minimizing resource requirements and reducing risks to personnel.

Collaborating closely with Saab Kockums, Klein Marine Systems is spearheading the development of the SAS hardware. The prototype sonar technology was publicly showcased for the first time at REPMUS 2024, the Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping event recognized as the world’s largest and most intricate Maritime Unmanned Systems (MUS) exercise.
