Marlink, a provider of managed services for business-critical IT solutions, is aiding the digital transformation of Knutsen Group with the implementation of the Sealink NextGen solution across its fleet.

The Sealink NextGen solution offers Knutsen Group high bandwidth and low latency internet connectivity through LEO services, enabling a new level of applications for sea staff within a secure hybrid network.

Marlink’s customer integration team collaborated with Knutsen Group to ensure a seamless integration of the solution across the fleet.

This upgrade supplements the existing very small aperture terminal (VSAT) installations with two Starlink LEO terminals on 59 vessels and an additional 19 newbuildings.

Knutsen Group IT manager Thomas Svendsen said: “As a specialised operator focused on safety and efficiency, Knutsen Group works with trusted partners, which made Marlink the natural choice to support our digital transformation.

Expanding the range of applications available for business functions and crew welfare will create new opportunities for Knutsen Group going forward.

The combination of LEO, VSAT, and mobile satellite services (MSS) within the Sealink NextGen service is expected to enhance user experience and application performance for the shipping company.

Furthermore, Knutsen Group will be trialling Marlink’s software-defined routeing (SD-WAN) solution, which promises to improve network management and ensure the reliability of business-critical communications.

Marlink Maritime president Tore Morten Olsen said: “The scale and scope of this Sealink NextGen upgrade clearly demonstrates solid teamwork and efficient workflows within our teams and the client.

The possibilities that this hybrid network solution creates for Knutsen Group will support their strategy for fully digitalised operations.
