A New Era of Offshore Operations Unveiled with REACH REMOTE 1

A new era of offshore operations has begun with the successful delivery of REACH REMOTE 1, a 24-metre unmanned surface vessel (USV) designed by Kongsberg Maritime.

This groundbreaking achievement marks a significant milestone through collaboration between Kongsberg Maritime, REACH SUBSEA ASA, Massterly, and Trosvik Maritime. The REACH REMOTE 1 is designed to revolutionize offshore operations with cutting-edge KONGSBERG technology.

After a series of intensive sea trials overseen by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the Norwegian Maritime Authority, the vessel is set to conduct underwater surveys off the coast of Haugesund, Norway, before expanding its applications further.

The success of REACH REMOTE 1 has paved the way for the upcoming sea trials of the second vessel, REACH REMOTE 2.

Bjørg Mathisen Døving, VP Reach Remote of REACH SUBSEA, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “Reach Remote is an extraordinary journey, shaping the future of uncrewed offshore operations. We are thrilled to see the Reach Remote 1 set sail and prepared for its first mission.”

As the prime contractor for the project, Kongsberg Maritime took charge of vessel design, yard delivery, supply chain management, systems integration, and commissioning, showcasing their expertise in maritime technology.

Lisa Edvardsen Haugan, President of Kongsberg Maritime, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, stating, “The REACH REMOTE 1 USV is a testament to our dedication to pushing the boundaries of maritime technology. This vessel is poised to play a vital role in shaping the future of offshore activities.”

During sea trials, the USV was monitored and controlled from a Remote Operations Centre (ROC) onboard a support vessel, showcasing the vessel’s remote operation capabilities. Massterly will control the USV from a land-based ROC in Horten, Norway, during pilot operations.

The design of the REACH REMOTE USV allows for crewless operation, offering advantages in terms of operating costs, safety, and emissions compared to crewed vessels. Kongsberg Maritime has incorporated proven technology into the vessel’s design to ensure safety and reliability, working closely with regulatory bodies.

With plans to introduce increased remote and autonomous functionality gradually, the REACH REMOTE USV represents a significant advancement in offshore operations.
