Kongsberg Maritime Launches Innovative K-Sim Offshore DP3 Anchor Handling Simulator

Kongsberg Maritime has recently unveiled its latest training solution, the K-Sim Offshore DP3 Anchor Handling Simulator, aimed at enhancing competency standards and operational efficiency in complex offshore operations. With an investment exceeding $322,000, this simulator is set to revolutionize training in the maritime sector and promote sustainability across the industry.

Designed to prioritize maritime safety, the simulator will support local customers and partners in ensuring safe operations and reducing risks in critical maritime activities. Situated at Kongsberg Maritime’s Aberdeen office in Westhill, the simulator has been upgraded to meet the increasing demand for skilled Dynamic Positioning professionals, particularly in offshore oil and gas operations.

Enhancing Skills for Offshore Operations

The K-Sim Offshore DP3 Anchor Handling Simulator will equip operators with the necessary skills and expertise to effectively support large-scale projects in the North Sea and beyond. By offering a highly realistic training environment, course delegates can practice complex operations and emergency preparedness in controlled conditions.

Kerry Craig, Operations Manager at Kongsberg Maritime, emphasized the simulator’s advanced features, stating, “The K-Sim Offshore DP3 Anchor Handling Simulator sets itself apart with advanced physics-based simulations and hydrodynamic modeling, allowing trainees to operate in various vessel types, locations, and weather conditions. This level of realism enhances competency among operators, leading to improved performance in the field.”

Investing in Training Excellence

To further enhance the simulator’s capabilities, Kongsberg Maritime will expand its instructor team from two to three expert Dynamic Positioning Operators by 2025. This move aims to bring a wider range of knowledge and experience to strengthen training programs and ensure that operators are well-prepared for the challenges of offshore operations.
