Kongsberg Maritime to Deliver Advanced Ship Design for Petrobras Operations
Kongsberg Maritime has recently secured a contract with Compagnie Maritime Monegasque (CMM) to provide cutting-edge ship design and technology for six hybrid platform supply vessels (PSVs) with oil spill recovery capacity. These vessels are set to support Petrobras’ offshore operations, marking a significant advancement in sustainable offshore activities.
CMM emerged as the top contender in Petrobras’ tender for state-of-the-art hybrid large multipurpose 5,000 DWT PSVs with oil spill recovery capabilities. This success has enabled CMM to secure firm 12-year charter contracts with Petrobras for these newbuild vessels.
Under the agreement, Kongsberg Maritime will deliver ship design services and an integrated equipment package for the six PSVs. The vessels, measuring 92 meters in length and based on Kongsberg Maritime’s UT7420 design range, will feature advanced technology and hybrid propulsion systems aimed at significantly enhancing fuel efficiency compared to traditional vessels.
One of the standout features of these PSVs is their capacity to be upgraded to ethanol fuel, which could potentially reduce carbon emissions by up to 70% once the upgrade is implemented. This move underscores the commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility in offshore operations.
“This project represents a significant leap forward in sustainable offshore operations. Our innovative ship design, coupled with advanced hybrid propulsion and integrated solutions, ensures unmatched fuel efficiency, safety, and sustainability,” remarked Atle Gaasø, Sales Director Offshore at Kongsberg Maritime.
Christophe Vancauwenbergh, CEO of CMM, also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Kongsberg Maritime, stating, “Kongsberg Maritime’s innovative ship design plays a crucial role in realizing our vision for more efficient and sustainable offshore operations. Their expertise and presence in Brazil have been instrumental in the success of this bid, and we are optimistic about the final confirmation of the tender.”
