Dutch Shipping Company Longship Welcomes Ultra-Low Emission Vessel Longearth

Longship, a Dutch shortsea ship operator and logistics company, recently celebrated the delivery of their latest addition to the fleet, the Longearth. This 8,600 dwt ultra-low emission diesel-electric general cargo vessel was the third in a series of four units ordered from Türkiye’s Atlas Shipyard.

The Longearth, measuring 140.5 meters in length, was officially launched and christened in June 2024. Following the ceremony, the vessel underwent preparations to ensure it met the company’s standards of efficiency and sustainability. Designed in collaboration with Ankerbeer BV, the Longearth is part of a series aimed at reducing fuel consumption by 45% compared to similar-sized vessels while also minimizing harmful emissions.

Longship ensured that the design of the Longearth complies with EU Stage V standards for non-road mobile machinery and holds the Prepared for Methanol C hybrid alternative class notation. The company’s commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in their investments in eco-friendly technology.

Expansion Plans Continue

Longship’s fleet expansion efforts have been ongoing, with the recent order of two 3,700 dwt general cargo vessels from GS Projects in December 2024. These newbuildings are expected to be delivered this year, further solidifying Longship’s presence in the shipping industry.

Collaborating with GS Projects, Ship and Steelbuilding (SaS), and Groot Ship Design, Longship is focused on developing vessels that prioritize highly efficient fuel consumption and advanced eco-friendly technologies. This commitment to sustainability sets Longship apart in the maritime sector.

With the addition of the Longearth and ongoing expansion plans, Longship continues to demonstrate its dedication to innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility in the shipping industry.
