LS Cable & System Consortium Receives LOA from TenneT for BalWin5 Grid Connection Project
A consortium comprising LS Cable & System, Jan De Nul, and Denys has been awarded a letter of allocation (LOA) from German/Dutch transmission system operator TenneT for the supply of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables for the BalWin5 grid connection project in Germany.
As per the LOA, the consortium will oversee the manufacturing, transportation, installation, and testing of 525 kV HVDC power cables for the BalWin5 grid connection project, which is a part of TenneT’s 2 GW program.
The scope of the LOA includes offshore and onshore power cables that will connect an offshore converter station in the German North Sea to a planned onshore converter station in Bremen, Germany.
While specific contract details are subject to further negotiations, LS Cable & System has indicated that the finalized terms will be disclosed upon the signing of the contract in the future.
The expected date for the contract signing is set for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Previously, in May 2023, the consortium had secured contracts with TenneT for the installation of 525 kV HVDC cable systems for multiple offshore wind projects in Germany.
Specifically, the consortium of Jan De Nul, LS Cable, and Denys will be responsible for connecting cable systems in Lower Saxony, linking to BalWin4 and LanWin1 in the Unterweser area, and LanWin5 in the Rastede area, Germany.
In other news related to LS Cable & System, the company has recently been chosen as the preferred submarine cable supplier for the 504 MW Taenan offshore wind farm in South Korea.
