Advanced Polymer Coatings Secures Major Contract with Hafnia

[By: Advanced Polymer Coatings]

Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC), based in Avon, Ohio, has announced a significant manufacturing contract with Hafnia, the world’s largest operator of product and chemical tankers. The agreement involves the application of APC’s high-performance MarineLINE coating system to 10 chemical tankers in the Hafnia fleet.

Hafnia’s decision to choose MarineLINE was influenced by the coating system’s superior chemical resistance properties, ease of cleaning, and reduced risk of contamination from previous cargoes. APC’s dedication to customer satisfaction also played a significant role in securing the contract. The two-year tank recoating program is set to commence soon, with additional vessels scheduled for recoating as the project progresses.

The tankers selected for recoating were acquired by Hafnia in January 2022. While some vessels are already coated with MarineLINE, others will have their current epoxy coatings replaced with the advanced solution.

Onur Yildirim, APC Global Marine Manager, expressed excitement about the partnership with Hafnia, stating, “MarineLINE protects cargo tanks from more IMO approved chemicals than any other coating. Its high resistance, gloss finish, and low absorption make it faster to clean, outperforming stainless steel and epoxy coatings. This efficiency leads to quicker ship turnaround, ultimately improving vessel performance and profitability.”

Mikkel Boesen, Vice President of TECOS Fleet at Hafnia, emphasized the company’s commitment to operational excellence, stating, “Working with MarineLINE aligns perfectly with our vision for efficiency and performance in our chemical fleet. The coating’s superior resistance, ease of cleaning, and versatility in handling different chemical cargoes were key factors in our decision.”

The Hafnia contract adds to APC’s recent successes, with a 42% increase in sales of the MarineLINE coating system in 2023. The company currently holds a 12% share of the global chemical tanker coating market, with over 700 ships worldwide coated with MarineLINE.
