Singapore-based Megamas Resources Signs Letter of Intent for Cable Laying Vessel Construction

Singapore-based offshore service provider Megamas Resources has recently announced the signing of a letter of intent with German yard Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven to initiate advanced discussions for the potential construction of a new multi-purpose cable laying vessel, with an option for a second unit.

The project, in collaboration with Crewstone International Private Equity and Investments, aims to address the global shortage of specialized offshore vessels and support both the renewable energy and subsea telecommunications sectors.

Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven, in partnership with Ulstein Design and Solutions, will oversee the construction of the vessel, ensuring compliance with DNV’s Clean and Recyclable class notations. The anticipated delivery of the first vessel is by the end of 2027.

According to Tiew Sien Kheng of Megamas Resources, “This vessel will serve a vital purpose, facilitating the laying, repair, and maintenance of subsea cables, including telecommunication cables that carry the world’s data and power cables delivering renewable energy from offshore sources.”
