An Indian Merchant Navy officer working with Navsug Marine Services, Chennai, died after he fell into the sea from a docked ship close to Indonesia’s Batam Island.
His body will reach India in a couple of days.
Manish Chandra Yadav, a 33-year-old chief officer, was boarding the vessel from a jetty when he fell into the water and drowned on July 24, 2025.
His colleagues pulled him out quickly and took him to the hospital; however, he had already died.
One of the officials expressed his sadness at the unfortunate incident and said that they will send the body to his home from Indonesia.
The ship was docked for repairs, and the incident happened on Monday night, around 2:30 a.m., when he slipped from the stairs.
His family members informed that he was to leave for Dubai on July 25, 2025, but he remained on the ship due to the repair work.
He had joined the Merchant Navy in 2013 after doing a B.Sc in Nautical Science.
Manish had taken a short break from his career to work for an MNC, after which he rejoined the Merchant Navy just two years ago.
Manish was married and left behind his wife, Reena, and two children, aged four and two, along with his parents.
